According to a report from Michael Wallace, senior editor for Grind City Media at Grizzlies.com, the Memphis Grizzlies will promote former player Tayshaun Prince to Vice President of Basketball Affairs.

Prince played for the Grizzlies for three seasons, but he is most well-known as a member of the Detroit Pistons' title-winning team in 2004-05 that ended the early 2000s Los Angeles Lakers' dynasty.

Beyond that, Prince was a four-time All-Defense honoree, and ended his career with per-game averages of 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 33 minutes per game.

Prince joins a fairly new front office for Memphis, which recently hired Rich Cho, former general manager of the Charlotte Hornets as the organizations’ vice president of basketball strategy, Glen Grunwald as senior advisor, Zachary Kleiman as executive vice president of basketball operations and Jason Wexler as president of basketball operations.

With a likely Mike Conley trade incoming this offseason as well as the potential for landing the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the Grizzlies are at a crossroads as an organization. After trading away Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors, with the loss of Conley in the cards as well, making changes to the front office made sense.

Memphis went 33-49 last season under J.B. Bickerstaff, who took as the team's head coach in the early going of the 2017-18 season after the team fired David Fizdale. Following the end of the 2018-19 regular season, management indicated Bickerstaff would return, a notion that was almost immediately overturned when owner Robert Pera announced his dismissal on April 11th.
