Zach Randolph was recognized with one of the greatest honors a basketball player can receive in 2017, when his No. 50 jersey was retired by the Memphis Grizzlies. Now, though, the two-time All-Star is hoping for a post-retirement role with the team after officially hanging up his sneakers:

Randolph, now 38 years of age, led the Grizzlies to seven straight playoff appearances. Known as a physical force in the paint, the former Michigan State standout averaged 16.8 points and 10.2 rebounds in 551 games with Memphis.

At this point, it's not clear what sort of role Randolph would be interested in. The Grizzlies would likely be open to the idea, as he has veteran knowledge and a strong following from the team's fans. He also has the respect of most players in the league, even to this day. A coaching position, perhaps? A role in the front office? Something else?

Either way, the Grizzlies could use a bit of help, as they're currently holding a 13-22 overall record. Things have changed in Memphis, though, as the team has embarked on a rebuild thanks to the trades of Marc Gasol and Mike Conley over the last year. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. are leading the way for the Grizzlies into the future.

Whether or not Zach Randolph's dream of landing a post-retirement role with the Grizzlies comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like he's interested.
