The Memphis Grizzlies may consider trading Marc Gasol away before the deadline to fully utilize his value as an asset:

Only a few weeks ago, the Grizzlies decided to trade away two of their second-round picks (plus a few minor players) to the Chicago Bulls for Justin Holiday. It seemed like a last ditch effort to try to hop back into the playoff race. However, as Holiday has been awful and the team is still struggling, should they go into sell mode?

Marc Gasol is the foundation of this team, both offensively and defensively. He came into this year as healthy as he has been in a while and was terrific to start the season. However, Gasol has slipped over the last few months, naturally coinciding with the Grizzlies' fall.

As Gasol's future is murky, Memphis has to decide what to do with him. Their next step should be to rebuild. Jaren Jackson Jr. should be an All-Star big man at some point, but otherwise, the team is full of older veterans. Even Mike Conley's clock is ticking.

It remains to be seen what decision will be made regarding Gasol's contract. He likely wants to play on a championship contender and won't stay in Memphis for the long-term rebuild.

The Grizzlies are 19-23 and sitting 14th in the Western Conference. They will face off next against the Milwaukee Bucks.
