What a welcome party for the 19-year-old.

The Grizzlies for once had lady luck on their side in May's draft lottery. They jumped from eight to two to get the chance to select Morant with the second pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

Morant, who will turn 20 this August, ushers in the next chapter for Memphis basketball.

The Grizzlies recently traded longtime point guard Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz, which effectively ended the Grit ‘n Grind era in Memphis. Conley, Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, and Tony Allen were the faces of the Grit ‘n Grind era that defined Memphis basketball in the earlier part of the decade.

Morant's pairing with Jaren Jackson Jr. already has a lot of Grizzlies fans excited for their future. Jackson, last year's No. 4 pick, showed a lot of promise in his rookie campaign, which earned him First Team All-Rookie honors.

With the addition of Morant, these two figure to become the faces of the franchise in the foreseeable future.

Morant is an exceptional and explosive athlete, while Jackson has shown his versatility as an athletic big man and a stretch-four who can thrive on both ends of the floor.

Buckle up, Memphis. Exciting times are coming.
