At first glance of the final score in the game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons on Thursday, it can easily be thought of as a highly competitive matchup with stats almost the same for both teams. However, that wasn’t exactly the case as there was a huge disparity in free throw attempts as the home team shot 37 times versus the 14 of the Grizzlies — something that baffled Grizzlies coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

After the game, Bickerstaff was obviously upset over the huge difference in the free throws his team faced. He then added, via FOX Sports Grizzlies, that his team does not deserve to be in the similar situation night in and night out as they always compete very hard to earn more victories.

Despite being shorthanded playing without Mike Conley, and Tyreke Evans’ stint with the Grizzlies essentially now over, they still gave their best to come out with the victory and even had a chance to win it before the clock expired until Marc Gasol missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

That magnifies the disparity in free throws further as a couple more calls going their way could’ve led to a win especially because they were perfect from the line on Thursday, going 14-of-14.

Bickerstaff did not directly name any referee in particular who may have missed some calls that should’ve been in their favor, but his statement is definitely an appeal for them to officiate their games closer to avoid the same disparity to happen again to the Grizzlies in the future.
