Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters was once again the butt of jokes from some sections of the internet after an image of him seeming extra chunky in a team photo during their trip to Mexico last month made the rounds on the web.

But as Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel notes, Waiters has pushed back on the notion that he’s gotten fat. The Heat scorer says he was just wearing extra layers which concealed the fact that he’s actually in the best shape of his life.

“Where's the strength-and-conditioning coach? I've got 6 percent body fat. I'm 219. Last year I was 225, 223, playing the way I was playing. I'm lighter. You know if I was [heavier] there would be a bunch of red flags everywhere right? I ain't got to post no pictures on Instagram to prove it to nobody. I'm in the best shape of my life. They don't say it when I'm dunking.”

While Dion Waiters claims his body is the best it’s ever been, the same can’t be said about his game at the moment. His shooting, in particular, has regressed to the mean and is now down to 40 percent overall while his 3-point percentage is at 31 percent.

Unfortunately, those numbers are more of the norm for Waiters than last year’s career-best stats. While his efforts to get himself in the best shape possible are admirable, Dion Waiters may have just hit his ceiling as a basketball player.
