Former NBA player and current TNT personality Kenny Smith says he can make Miami Heat swingman Derrick Jones Jr. “the best player in the league” in just three months if Jones worked out with him.

Jones Jr., upon hearing Smith's statement, says he's absolutely on board with training with Smith and becoming an elite player in the NBA.

“If he’s offering to help, I’m 100 percent in; he was a great player,” said Jones Jr., via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “Whatever help I can get in this league to become a great player and impose my will on other teams, I’m taking it.

“I’m only 22 years old. I work hard. I am in the gym every day. I’ve seen improvement from day one of me stepping in this Miami Heat culture to now. My game has changed a whole lot. Everything is different for me. The game is a lot slower to me.”

Derrick Jones Jr. can jump out of the gym.

He has nuclear athleticism and has developed a sound jump shot this season with the Heat.

In 52 games this season for the Heat, Jones Jr. is averaging 7.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 59.2 percent from the free-throw line.
