There was a time in which the Heat were interested in acquiring Chris Paul, but that interest has since died off. Now, with the NBA's trade season about to get under way, multiple front office executives believe Miami would be more likely to chase a player like Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday.

Via Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer:

It almost didn’t work out this way. The Heat inquired about a trade for a relic point guard in Chris Paul but weren’t able to come to an agreement with the Thunder this offseason (or with the Rockets when a three-way deal was discussed before the Paul-for–Russell Westbrook agreement). At this point, Miami’s interest in Paul is extinct, according to league sources. Miami is more likely to chase someone like Jrue Holiday, multiple front office executives believe. Holiday was recently made available by the Pelicans, according to The New York Times’ Marc Stein.

The Pelicans are reportedly willing to listen to trade offers for Holiday, though their asking price will be high. New Orleans had been intent on keeping the former UCLA standout around, though this season's 6-22 start has them thinking about making changes:

Holiday would be a fine addition for just about any team. He's made 26 appearances with the Pelicans this season, racking up averages of 19.5 points on 44.6 percent shooting from the field (33.6 percent from beyond the arc), 6.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 36.1 minutes per outing.

Whether or not the Heat will indeed make a move for Holiday remains to be seen, but it sounds like there is some level of interest.
