In a flashy first day of a three-day celebration in South Beach, the Miami Heat finally began the jersey retirement of one of their all-time legends Dwyane Wade.

After an iconic 16-year career, the team officially put Wade’s No. 3 on the rafters of the AmericanAirlines Arena.

The event was labeled “The Flashback,” during which the city and the entire Heat organization reminisced the legendary guard’s iconic career. Wade's friends, family, and former coaches and teammates were all in attendance.

Wade was drafted by the Heat with the fifth overall back in 2003, and he immediately made the NBA All-Rookie First Team. His career only went uphill from there, and the Flash later grabbed his first championship against the Dallas Mavericks in the 2006 NBA finals.

It was also the franchise’s first-ever NBA title. Wade, of course, was named Finals MVP. Throughout the following seasons, he continued to write his legend, earning his first scoring title in the 2008-09 season.

Afterwards, Wade became part of the historic “Big Three” in Miami at the start of the decade. Along with LeBron James and Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade won two more championships in 2012 and 2013.

The 13-time NBA All-Star racked up records in the Heat's history books, leading the franchise in points, assists, steals, shots made and taken, and games. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard was also known to get it done on both ends of the floor. He was named not only in eight All-NBA teams, but also in three All-Defensive teams.

Dwyane Wade will not only live on as the Heat's greatest player, but also one of the best slashers and clutch players in NBA history.
