The whole world knows that LaMelo Ball is big time. Since being selected in the 2020 NBA Draft, Ball has done nothing but put on a show. The flair and style that many were worried about wouldn't transition to the NBA, did. He has breathed life back into the Charlotte Hornets organization and is aiming to get them into the postseason for the first since 2016. After winning Rookie of the Year, Ball has had a great sophomore season, currently averaging 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and made the All-Star team.

Despite that impressive stat line, Ball still feels like he can do more for his team, it's just a matter of time and opportunity. He answered some pretty interesting questions, per Slam Magazine.

“When they really put them keys in my hand, I feel like it's gonna be a whole new situation,” the Hornets star said. “But until then, I'm gonna keep doing what I need to do, just try to get these wins. I ain't gonna lie, every game I feel like I can do more than what I'm doing.”

James Borrego does have LaMelo moving to the beat of his drum most games. However, in crunch time, we have seen Borrego let Melo be Melo and really take over games. In his most recent performance against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden, we saw the Hornets phenom do just that. He finished with 20 points and a career-high 15 assists in a much-needed win. We have seen a lot of different games where he has closed teams out or went on a big scoring run on his own. He is a legit three-level scorer, but it's not even his first instinct to score the ball. He is a gifted playmaker first and foremost.

He has already impacted winning, but the Hornets guard doesn't deem a season successful until they've won a championship.

“So last year we were in the play-in. This year hopefully we get into the playoffs, win first round something like that. Just keep going up from there. Put that bitch in my hands and let me rock! That's how I be feeling and then we're gonna be straight.”

He is a hungry kid and already has big goals for himself. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Ball. Once he is able to get what he wants, who knows what will happen. Sure, he is certainly right about getting the right big man that can patrol the paint on defense and crash the glass, but when will he really get the keys to the offense? To the naked eye, he probably already has the keys to the offense, but as you read from this, that is not the case. The Hornets offense can be taken up a few notches if Ball is given that freedom, but it could also phase out some of the other guys in the offense potentially.

Only time will tell when Ball gets the keys, but Borrego has done a great job thus far reeling him in to be more composed and poised down the stretches of games. Patience is key in the growth of any young player. Even though Ball has developed rather quickly already, there is a lot more room for his game to grow. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show.
