The Charlotte Hornets have hovered around .500 all season long. As of this article’s publication, they are ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference and expect to compete in the play-in tournament. However, LaMelo Ball believes that the Hornets are just one piece away from becoming an elite force in the Eastern Conference.

“I ain’t gonna lie, every game I feel like I can do more than what I’m doing… I just feel like we’re a big away. One that can clog up the whole paint, rebound. Put that b**** in my hands & let me rock! That’s how I be feeling.”

The Hornets’ bigs currently consist of Mason Plumlee and Montrezl Harrell. While both are solid NBA players, neither offers a star presence underneath the basket. LaMelo is likely inferring that Charlotte could use a superstar center to play in the post.

LaMelo Ball, the reigning Rookie of the Year, is enjoying a successful campaign overall. The second year star was named as a replacement in the All-Star game and is averaging an even 20 points per game on 42.5 field goal percent shooting and 38.2 three-point percent shooting. Additionally, the dynamic point guard is dishing out 7.4 assists per contest and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game. To cap it all off, Ball has even added an element of defense as evidenced by his 1.6 steals per game.

So Charlotte should probably listen if he believes he can be even better with a more capable option in the post. LaMelo Ball could end up turning into an elite talent if he improves his game even just a little bit.

The Hornets are close to developing a top-tier roster and could become a threat for years to come in the Eastern Conference with one or two more star-studded pieces.
