The Charlotte Hornets suffered a critical loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday night, as they are getting closer and closer to being eliminated from playoff contention.

But, hey, at least Malik Monk did something cool.

Known mainly for his perimeter shooting ability, Monk showed off his hops during the first quarter of the defeat, getting up to throw down an alley-oop slam:

Malik Monk finished with six points, six rebounds and a couple of steals in the loss.

The 21-year-old has actually had a pretty disappointing season overall, as he is averaging 9.2 points over 17.2 minutes per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from 3-point range and 88.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Monk, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Kentucky, was originally selected by the Hornets in the first round (11th pick overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft.

He went on to play in 63 games during his rookie campaign, registering 6.7 points across 13.6 minutes a night while making 36 percent of his field goal attempts, 34.2 percent of his long-distance tries and 84.2 percent of his foul shots.

Add Monk to the list of Charlotte draftees who have been thoroughly disappointing.

To be fair, Monk is still very young and is only in his second season, so there is still time for him to improve, but it's not looking too good thus far.

As for the Hornets? They fell to 35-42 with the loss and now sit three games behind the Miami Heat for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings with just five games to go.
