Quarterback Mike Glennon was released after failing to make the final roster cuts for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fortunately, it seems the new rules in place for the 2020 NFL season have helped him stick around.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, The Jaguars will be using one of their expanded practice squad spots to bring Glennon back:

The Jaguars officially moved forward with the Gardner Minshew era under center by trading away quarterback Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears. They even solidified the notion that they are all in on Minshew by keeping quarterback Jake Luton as the lone backup on the depth chart after initially releasing Glennon and quarterback Josh Dobbs.

Jacksonville selected Luton in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and it appears he showed enough promise for the coaching staff to keep him on the active roster as opposed to the veteran Glennon. Regardless, the move should help give them some more depth under center should Minshew suffer any setbacks throughout the course of the 2020 campaign.

Glennon has become a bit of an NFL journeyman in recent years after spending the last three seasons with a different team. Although he gained some experience as a starter during his stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears, he was quickly relegated to backup duties with the Arizona Cardinals and then-Oakland Raiders.

Given the circumstances of an unprecedented season due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, teams continue to take full advantage of the expanded practice squads to secure quality depth at certain positions.
