The Jacksonville Jaguars gutted out a 20-15 win in the season opener on the road against the New York Giants but saw star running back Leonard Fournette exit the game early due to a hamstring injury that has put his status for Week 2 up in the air.

This was further clouded after he didn't take the field for Wednesday's practice due to the ailment, according to The Associated Press.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette missed practice Wednesday because of a strained right hamstring.

Fournette did voice immediately following the season opener to Josina Anderson of ESPN that he would be able to play against the New England Patriots this Sunday afternoon in an AFC Championship rematch. However, his lack of participation in practice on Wednesday only speaks to the severity of the injury as the team is taking the precautionary approach with the situation to prevent him from suffering from any setbacks along the way in his recovery.

Given that he is dealing with a hamstring injury, it could see the Jaguars choose to sit him a game to allow it to heal fully before he makes a return as it could linger on if not handled properly by the team. Fournette has proven to be a huge piece as the key cog in the backfield in their run-first offensive game plan. He was getting off to a strong start with 41 rushing yards on nine attempts prior to the hamstring injury, which put backup T.J. Yeldon into the fray to pick up the slack to where he had 51 rushing yards on 14 attempts along with three catches for 18 receiving yards and a touchdown.

If Fournette were to miss this week's game, the Jaguars will more than likely turn to Yeldon to take up the spot start duties against the Patriots.
