The Jacksonville Jaguars believe they have the talent necessary to re-emerge as a Super Bowl contender in 2019. An injury to Quincy Williams, though, could certainly cause some hiccups on defense.

The Jaguars announced on Thursday that Williams will miss four-to-six weeks with a knee injury. More specifically, Williams suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during practice on Thursday.

The reason why this injury is so important is that Williams is expected to be the leading candidate to start at weakside linebacker. Of course, Telvin Smith is usually the starter at weakside linebacker but he announced earlier this offseason he is sitting out the 2019 season.

Fortunately, head coach Doug Marrone says he expects to have Williams back by Week 1. He also has been very impressed with how Williams has carried himself during training camp.

“What I really love is that you have a player [and ask him], ‘Hey, how's it going? I know you're taking a lot of reps, how's it — ‘ ‘Coach, I need the reps. I want the reps, I need the reps,'” Marrone said, per ESPN's Michael DiRocco. “To me, l like when a player has that type of mentality, he knows it.

Marrone also stirred up some controversy when he said that he believes that Williams is the fastest player on the team when the ball is snapped.

“I mean, when you watch him, he is fast,” Marrone said. “I know Dede [Westbrook] will be pissed. There will be a lot of the receivers that'll be pissed off, but I'm just telling you now. And you guys know, you're seeing it — I mean, he is fast. Fast.”

While Williams misses some time, newly-signed Ramik Wilson is expected to fill in for him at weakside linebacker. Nonetheless, they are hoping to get Williams back on the field before they face the high-octane Kansas City Chiefs offense in Week 1.
