Presumptive No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence held his pro day on Friday, nearly a month in advance of Clemson's pro day. Apparently, he did so at the suggestion of new Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.

Lawrence is expected to undergo surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. Meyer told NFL Network's Jane Slater he suggested Lawrence get his pro day out of the way early so as to have a clearer timeline going forward:

“I (told) him there are three choices. No. 1, you can wait until the March 11 pro day, but now your (recovery) is getting near August, because it's a five to six month injury. The second (choice), you can not throw. He's probably a good enough player, he could've said ‘I'm not doing it,' him and his agent,” Jaguars coach Urban Meyer said, via Chase Goodbread of NFL.com. “Or the third (choice), I said ‘Why don't you just go grab a ball and throw for a little bit? … And he said ‘Let's go.' That was it. Next thing I know, we're here at a pro day that they put together (quickly). That's a guy that loves football and is confident in his ability.”

The Clemson star went through a 52-throw workout in front of Meyer and representatives from 16 other NFL teams.

Those teams might as well have packed it up and went home early because consensus has Meyer and the Jaguars selecting Lawrence with the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Many believe Lawrence is one of the best quarterback prospects in years. He showed off his talent to NFL evaluators on Friday, in part because Meyer (maybe his future head coach?) suggested he do so. The Jaguars have been on the clock since Jan. 3.
