One of the messages that stands out is that of All-Star Donovan Mitchell. The third-year guard opted for the “Say Her Name” statement in honor of Breonna Taylor. Taylor was a 26-year-old woman who was killed by the police in her own home is Louisville, Kentucky back in March. Previously, Mitchell acknowledged that the resumption of the league might serve as a distraction from the socio-political issues at hand, but that he also intends to use the same as an avenue to promote social equality.

“I think [basketball] is a distraction from what’s going on in the world,” Mitchell said previously. “But when the job calls, you have to go to work. Now it’s on us to go out there and push this message as much as we can.”

“It should be about Breonna Taylor. Her killers still haven’t been arrested.”

Mitchell has a bit of a personal connection with Taylor and her death.  The Jazz star played college ball in Louisville not too long ago.
