It seems just about any time an NBA team is looking to open up a roster spot or free up some cash, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the first to receive a phone call. Well, OKC worked out yet another trade on Tuesday, this time acquiring shooting guard Miye Oni in a trade with the Utah Jazz, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

As part of the deal, Oni will be headed to OKC alongside a 2028 second-round pick, per Adrian Wojnarowski. The Thunder waived Gabriel Deck in order to facilitate the deal with the Jazz. Utah will be freeing up a roster spot as well as some cash as the team looks for an upgrade for a championship run. Wojnarowski reports that the Thunder plan to waive Oni, also enabling them to have an additional roster spot ahead of February's NBA Trade Deadline.

Oni is in his third NBA season, having spent his entire career with the Jazz. He has featured in 80 NBA games throughout his career, starting just one. Averaging 8.4 minutes per night across his career, Oni has posted career averages of 1.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.5 assists while shooting at a 33% clip from 3-point range.

He saw a decreased role with the Jazz in each season since he joined the team in 2019, having been selected in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors as a second-round selection with the 58th overall pick. In 2021-22, he averaged just 2.8 minutes per game, clearly having become an afterthought in the Jazz's rotation.

He won't get the chance to prove himself in Oklahoma City, unfortunately, with the Thunder planning to waive him once the trade is finalized.
