The Utah Jazz’s Rodney Hood is reportedly on the trading block and he could be moved before the NBA’s trade deadline. The Jazz are fighting for a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference and moving an integral piece to their lineup can go either way for them.

The New York Post’s Marc Stein reports that the team is shopping the young swingman around with several others listening.

“There is a growing belief in league personnel circles that Utah could move swingman Rodney Hood before the Feb. 8 trade deadline … with multiple teams expressing interest”

Hood is playing the best season of his career and is currently the second-leading scorer for the Jazz at 16.7 points per game next to their star rookie, Donovan Mitchell. But the Duke product is coming off the bench in the Jazz’s balanced attack and he is a hot commodity that can get the franchise a more complementary piece to Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert.

Make no mistake, Hood is a very good defender and a solid 3-point threat. He can play both shooting guard and small forward spots and that versatility is something that teams are craving for these days. Hood can be the missing piece for a team that’s looking to add a player to a championship run.

Hood is eligible for a contract extension, something that he and the Jazz failed to agree on before the season started so he is quite a risk. He is a restricted free agent so any team that takes him has the right to match any offer sheet.
