There has been a lot of talk this offseason about the NFL cutting down the preseason and adding onto the regular season, but that isn't something New York Jets coach Adam Gase is excited about.

Gase thinks that having four games during the preseason is essential because it gives coaches enough time to evaluate the 90 man roster and make decisions on what guys make the roster. If there were a cutdown on preseason games, it would give teams less time to evaluate guys who are trying to make the roster or the practice squad.

“I like the fact that it gives a chance to evaluate,” Gase saidVia Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “That fourth preseason game, all those guys that get to play, we get value out of that. We’re not trying to see if we can shorten the game up. We’ll probably try to throw it like 60 times.”

Gase admits that if he had a different team that maybe didn't need as much evaluating that he might feel different about the four-game preseason, but he doesn't so right now he enjoys it.

“Last year, I remember having a conversation with [McVay] about his starters not playing and they had an older team. They had a lot of guys that had played a lot of football. That’s kind of how they went about it. We have a young team and this is our first year in the program, so we need to play a little bit.”

Look for Gase to use all four of the preseason games to really get a good look at all 90 players on the roster before he has to make some tough decisions.
