Former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo has fired some pretty pointed shots at the Eagles as well as a couple of Giants players in his first public comments since his firing last year. It’s only fitting that he fire some shots at the city rival Jets as well.

McAdoo, who has had a good deal of experience working with quarterbacks over the course of his career, is a fan of Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold overall. But he's got a big problem with the way Darnold throws.

“I think the kid the Jets drafted has a lot of magic in his game,’’ McAdoo said per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “I think he’s special. He’s obviously a talented guy, he can make plays with his feet. I’d just have a hard time drafting a guy in the first round where you don’t necessarily like the way he throws.

“He can overcome it, guys have, but that’s something that’s a challenge for me. I’m gonna be looking at that, trying to fix it, because it’s a fundamental flaw, and I believe in the fundamentals. The quarterback, his No. 1 job is to pass the football. If I don’t like the way he throws the ball, I have a hard time picking him, right?’’

To be fair, McAdoo likely isn’t the only one who has this particular critique of Darnold. The young QB doesn’t exactly have perfect mechanics with his throwing motion, and in McAdoo’s opinion, that’s sort of a big deal.

The Jets obviously felt differently, though. While Darnold’s not perfect, he’s managed to make that somewhat flawed throwing style work for him. Only time will tell if he can do the same in the NFL, or if McAdoo will be proven right by his assessment of the Jets’ quarterback of the future.
