Sam Darnold has failed to show consistency in his first two seasons with the New York Jets. But Le'Veon Bell believes that Darnold is a new quarterback entering the 2020 season. While speaking about his quarterback, Bell shared the major difference he's seeing from Darnold this offseason.

“Sam is a lot more comfortable, and you can tell just by the way he’s talking to guys,” Bell said, via Chris Ryan of NJ.com. “It’s more of a sternness to him. He’s stern with guys now because he’s like, ‘Alright guys, we got to get this thing going.’ He feels a lot more comfortable, he can hold guys accountable because he’s not gonna mess up. Even with Jets coach (Adam) Gase, he might call something and Sam corrected him. Sam is getting to that point where he’s really starting to understand the offense.”

After being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold has combined for 5,889 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in his first 26 starts with the Jets. However, as he enters his third year in the NFL — and second year under Adam Gase — Bell is seeing a sense of comfortability from the USC product.

If the Jets hope to build off of their strong finish from last season, they'll need Darnold to lead the charge on offense. Once he begins to show more confidence and consistency, New York's offense could make some progress.

In his debut season with the Jets, Le'Veon Bell was disappointed in how he and the offense performed. Nonetheless, Bell is seeing positive signs from Darnold as New York hopes to contend in the AFC East.
