Training camp is kicking off as the new season is quickly approaching. There is a ton of hype building around the New York Jets, as the front office did a great job in improving the roster. However, the franchise was hit with concerning news on Thursday involving Mekhi Becton.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets have placed Becton on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin training camp. It's been a rough go for the young left tackle, as he hasn't been able to show off his skillsets since getting drafted. Hopefully, he recovers soon as New York needs him on the field to compete in the 2022 season.

We'll see how it plays out. Considering the Jets are aiming for an improved year, it's crucial for Becton to be available. Especially considering how dreadful the offensive line was last year. With all of the new additions to the roster, New York is hopeful to be more competitive but not having Mekhi Becton hurts their chances.

He's been battling a knee injury for quite some time, which doesn't bode well for his road to recovery. Even so, the Jets are going to give Becton all of the time he needs to return to action. Luckily, the timing of being placed on the PUP list is beneficial to both Mekhi Becton and the Jets.

The coaching staff can remove him from the PUP list at any moment throughout training camp. Had they placed Becton on this closer to the start of the regular season, the Jets would be without their young left tackle for the first portion of the year. Keep an eye on Mekhi Becton throughout minicamp, as New York will be evaluating his injury closely.
