After just two seasons with the New York Jets, cornerback Trumaine Johnson will be searching for a new home in 2020. Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the team has notified the starting defensive back on Monday that he will be cut.

In 2018, New York signed the former Saint Louis/Los Angeles Ram to a big five-year, $72.5 million contract expecting him to be a massive part of a revitalized Jets defense.

However, the former third-round pick has been, for the most part, a disappointment in The Big Apple. In two seasons, Johnson played in just 17 games, making 15 starts. This past season, the 30-year-old corner registered 25 tackles, two passes defended, one tackle for a loss and one interception.

The move to cut Johnson was largely an expected one for the Jets this offseason. Johnson was also put on injured reserve towards the end of last season after dealing with injuries to both of his ankles.

In 2015 with the Rams, Johnson's seven interceptions ranked third in the entire NFL and while adding 71 tackles to his resume, the 6-foot-2 corner seemed to have a bright future ahead of himself.

New York will now likely lean on cornerbacks Darryl Roberts, Arthur Maulet as well as free agent Brian Poole should he re-sign to carry the load as the team's top players at the position.
