If you're a fan of the New York Jets, look away. We've got news you won't want to hear, as rookie Quinnen Williams is apparently dealing with a calf injury, per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.

The injury has sidelined Williams for Thursday's OTA practice, but it fortunately doesn't appear to be anything too serious. Williams is reportedly getting some light work done on a side field while the rest of the team practices. The Jets will probably be pretty tight-lipped about what's bothering him so we likely won't get an official diagnosis, but as Alper notes it appears to be precautionary.

Williams has still yet to sign his rookie contract, which could further explain why they aren't taking any chances. The third overall pick in last month's draft, Williams is going to be asked to play a big role as a rookie. The Alabama product was widely regarded as one of the top players in the draft, and many observers considered him to be one of the best defensive line prospects in recent years.

Williams had a truly meteoric rise at Alabama. He redshirted in 2016, and then didn't play a ton in 2017. He burst onto the scene after winning a starting job last season, racking up 45 tackles, including 19.5 for a loss and eight sacks. Nearly half of his tackles were for a loss, which is absurd.

Williams earned a first-team All-SEC selection, as well as the Outland Trophy, awarded annually to the nation's top interior lineman. The Jets are looking to overhaul their defense, and Williams will be one of the centerpieces of new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' unit.
