The New York Jets have gotten off to an underwhelming 3-5 start to the 2018 NFL season. It appears even head coach Todd Bowles is frustrated with their performance thus far.

There was plenty of optimism about a potential turnaround prior to the season. However, Bowles admits the Jets still have some work to do, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

“The halfway point right now, it’s very frustrating,” Bowles said in his Monday press conference. “Like I said, we got to put our heads down and we got to correct this and we got to try to come out and win some ball games. The season is not over. Whether halfway through it, three and five, you don’t like where you are but we dug ourselves this hole, we have to dig ourselves out.”

there is certainly plenty of truth to Bowles' comments. New York has not had much to hang their hat on this season. They currently rank 29th in total offense and 24th in total defense. To make matters worse, questions have been raised about the lack of progress from quarterback Sam Darnold amidst his recent struggles.

Bowles had already been in a bit of a hot seat coming into the year. Regardless, the Jets still made several splashes in the offseason to make sure this team could compete. However, Bowles' seat is likely now warmer than ever with the Jets currently sitting at third place in the AFC East.

If Darnold's development continues to suffer under the current regime, it could very well be a matter of time before some serious changes are made. New York could potentially tie with the Miami Dolphins for the second spot in the division if they beat them this Sunday.
