The New York Jets have released wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, the team has announced Monday.

This news comes via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The Jets announced on Monday that they have waived Kerley, who had an expiring roster exemption with his suspension ending last week.

Kerley was handed a four-game suspension last month for violating the NFL’s policy on use of illegal substance. He finished serving the suspension this week and could’ve been eligible to play against the L.A. Chargers this coming Sunday had the Jets decided to retain him.

Kerley signed a one-year deal worth $775,000 with the Jets just days before the team opened their season on the road against the Buffalo Bills. As destiny would have it, Kerley’s last appearance for the Jets was during a game against the same Bills squad back in Week 9 in which the 29-year-old wideout played in just 10 total snaps.

In eight games for the Jet this season, Kerley recorded 217 receiving yards and grabbed a touchdown on 22 catches. In addition, he also had 16 carries for 85 rushing yards.

The former TCU Horned Frog could get some attention from wide-receiver needy teams once he clears waivers, as noted by NFL reporter Dov Kleiman on Twitter.
