New York Jets fans cursed the football gods when they missed out on Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft. Their perception of that draft going forward will depend a lot on just how good second-overall pick Zach Wilson becomes.

Yes, Lawrence is seen by many as a generational talent. But if Wilson can become the type of quarterback who competes for the NFL MVP award almost yearly and brings a Super Bowl to the Jets franchise, all will be forgiven. Someone, like say, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.

If you ask NFL journeyman QB Josh Johnson, Rodgers is exactly who he's seeing from Zach Wilson thus far. Johnson, who's now with the Jets, hasn't taken a lot of snaps throughout his lengthy career, one that's spanned 14 seasons and 13 different NFL teams, but he's been around long enough to know budding talent when he sees it.

Via ESPN's Rich Cimini:

“Oh, he's special, man,” Johnson told ESPN. “He can make some throws that I only see a few quarterbacks making. He reminds me a lot of [Green Bay's] Aaron Rodgers with some of the throws he makes, the way he can get his body in position and make unique throws in the pocket. He has really special arm talent. Once this season gets going, I think the whole country is going to see it. He has what it takes to be successful.”

Johnson has been around some high-level QBs like Andrew Luck and Eli Manning. Wilson's praise from his new Jets teammate is definitely music to fans' ears.

“I've been around so many different quarterbacks and what I appreciate is his ability to want to be great and own everything  “He always wants to take the reins. He's hard on himself, which I respect. His work ethic and his appreciation for the game are what's going to make him a great player. … He's always asking questions. He's always asking the ‘why?' That's the biggest thing, understanding why things are happening.”

Zach Wilson has a chance to do something special with the New York Jets. Now we just have to wait and see if he capitalizes on that opportunity.
