The Sacramento Kings have secured star point guard De'Aaron Fox for at least the next half decade, with Fox agreeing to a five-year, $163 million maximum extension per Stadium's Shams Charania.

Charania notes that the deal has a clause that could eventually reach the $195.6 super maximum.

Fox was set to agree to the maximum contract long before free agency commenced. The 22-year old has become a pivotal building block for a Kings franchise that's looking to return to playoff contention in the near future. Fox was selected fifth by the Kings in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Through three seasons, the University of Kentucky standout has averaged 16.2  points and 6.1 assists with the Kings, with his scoring averages improving each season. He finished his most recent season averaging a career high 21.1 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. Sacramento obviously believes in the Fox's trajectory given the massive contract.

While he's set to become the face of the franchise, the Kings front office will clearly want to see Fox make additional strides to improve his all-around game. One knock on his skillset was his need to improve his jump shot, which hasn't occurred yet through three seasons. He finished last season shooting a 29 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Still, Fox is easily one of the fastest players in today's league, if not the fastest. His ability to penetrate defenses and drive through lanes is unheard of. At only 22, Fox has ample time to improve his game with Sacramento for the future.
