Defense may be the key for the Sacramento Kings in the 2019-20 season, but head coach Luke Walton also wants his team to be active on the offensive end — particularly from the 3-point area.

Per James Jam of NBC Sports California, Walton revealed he expects the Kings to attempt around 35 3-pointers per game.

It does seem to the casual fan that Walton is not really addressing anything with his proposed changes to the way the Kings play. However, it's understandable to see where he is coming from with this expectation.

The Kings are in the Pacific Division, where stacked teams like the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are playing. Their easiest matches are going to be against a young and hungry Phoenix Suns.

By putting a lot of emphasis on the 3-ball, it will help open up the paint and make it easier for the team's slashers to score. After all, they can't totally impose their will against their opponents if they just play the way they do at the moment.

There's also a good chance of this working. De'Aaron Fox is one of the fastest players in the game and will continue to push the game's tempo. Buddy Hield has become an effective 3-point shooter and will be able to stretch the floor. The team also has other quality shooters in Harrison Barnes and Nemanja Bjelica.

Walton has established himself among the Kings players and will have an easier time imposing his will to the team compared to last year. There's no reason why fans shouldn't feel positive about their chances this year.
