ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith was nothing short of disgusted with how the New York Knicks went about their dealings in Day 1 of the free agency window. So much so, that Smith believes that “it's over” for the Knicks, after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving decided to sign for New York's cross-town rivals, the Brooklyn Nets.

It's hard to argue against Smith here, as he pretty much hit the nail on the head. While he did not forget about New York's recent signings in Julius Randle and Bobby Portis Jr. — two players that will provide the team with an upgrade for next season — Smith believes that this means very little in the grander scheme of things.

Perhaps the worst part about all this is the fact that while the Knicks were favorites to land both Durant and Irving on the onset, the Nets — of all the teams in the NBA — were somehow able to hijack the deal. This is the type of occurrence that will provide Brooklyn with bragging rights for a good decade or so.

Nonetheless, there is still probably one thing that can save this summer for New York, and at this point, it falls on the broad shoulders of one man: Kawhi Leonard. The reigning Finals MVP remains to be undecided on his future, and should make his decision in the coming days. Until anything is finalized, the Knicks can still count themselves in on the lottery. Sadly, though, we wouldn't count on this too much, Knicks fans.
