Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler is less than a year away from becoming an unrestricted free and signs are starting to point towards him going to the Big Apple to play for the New York Knicks.

There have been rumors this offseason that Butler isn't getting along with Karl-Anthony Towns and if the Wolves don't think that he will resign they may ship him off. Sports insight released their odds about where Butler will play his first game of the season and the Wolves are favorites, but not as heavy of favorites as one might think.

The Wolves are sitting at -225, while the Knicks have the second-best odds coming in at +800. Media members across the country also seem to be more in agreement that Butler is probably heading out of Minnesota after this season.

Recently on Bulls Talk Podcast (h/t Danny Abriano, SNY.tv), Mark Schanowski of NBC Sports Chicago was just the latest to suggest that Butler wants to team up with Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving. However, Irving might not be staying in Boston for long.

The former Cavaliers point guard has already stated that he is not looking to talk about a contract extension with the Celtics this offseason, meaning he too can get out of his contract thanks to a player option following the 2018-19 season.

Irving, who grew up just outside of New York City in New Jersey, has mentioned that he wants to play with Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks don't have a ton of trade assets that they are willing to give up to get Jimmy Butler this season so they are probably going to have to wait to give them their pitch next offseason in free agency.

Obviously, this story falls a bit in the gossip section and remains fluid. However, reading tea leaves can be incredibly fun.
