The Los Angeles Lakers lost Alex Caruso on Saturday after the 27-year-old hit his head hard on the floor in L.A.'s 105-100 win over the Indiana Pacers. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has provided an update on Caruso's head injury, and at this point, the 6-foot-5 point guard (and the Lakers) seems to have dodged a bullet.

According to coach Vogel, Caruso has not been placed on the concussion protocol:

“Alex [Caruso] was obviously not able to return,” Vogel said, via Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation. “He is not in concussion protocol but is still being evaluated for a concussion but is not in protocol currently.”

To be clear, Caruso is not out of the woods here just yet. As Vogel expressed, the Lakers fan-favorite is still undergoing tests, and he could very well be placed on the concussion protocol if deemed necessary. If this is the case, then L.A. will be without Caruso for a considerable period up to and until he clears the NBA's stern concussion protocols.

In case you missed it, here's a look at the moment Caruso sustained the scary injury:

The last thing the Lakers need right now is to lose another player to injury. Anthony Davis has already been ruled out for at least two more weeks, while it was earlier confirmed that both Marc Gasol and Kostas Antetokounmpo will be forced to sit out the team's upcoming back-to-back set due to health and safety protocols. The defending champs are missing a number of warm bodies right now, which will put added pressure on LeBron James to carry the team amid the injury crisis.
