The Los Angeles Lakers shot themselves in the foot on Saturday night as they ate a brutal loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

While mathematically, the chances of LA sneaking into the play-in tournament after the loss are minuscule at best, they're still breathing as things stand. With the San Antonio Spurs holding the tie-breaker edge, the Lakers must win two more games than their West rival in order to leapfrog them in the standings.

Anthony Davis still has faith that the Lakers can do it. He spoke out after the Pelicans loss, holding conviction that they can sweep their remaining contests.

Via Lakers postgame presser:

“I think it's a lot of belief,” said AD on the Lakers' chances. “We know what we're fighting for. We know the position that we're in. And we're playing against top teams.”

“I believe. I know this guy to my left [LeBron James] believes. Everyone in that locker room believes. We've got to go out and get it done. It's that simple. We have to win these games. We've got to have that approach,” the Lakers star continued.”

Even with a perfect 5-0 record, the Lakers still need some help from other teams to knock the Spurs down a peg during the season's final stretch. But at this point, Anthony Davis and Co. must control only what they can control.
