As expected, Anthony Davis recently opted out of his player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for the upcoming season. This did not come as a surprise, considering how Davis is expected to negotiate a new deal with L.A. that will allow him to sign a max deal with the squad.

Davis recently made an appearance on the Posted Up with C. Haynes program with Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, and as it turns out, the Lakers superstar saw this as a perfect opportunity to joke about his free agency:

Davis corrected Haynes, saying that he does not have a team right now, which technically, is absolutely right. By declining his player option for the 2020-21 season, the seven-time All-Star has now become an unrestricted free agent. As such, he is also free to sign with any team he so pleases — be it the Lakers or otherwise.

There's no need to panic for Laker fans, though. It's not as if Davis is going anywhere. He just won the title in L.A. playing alongside the great LeBron James, and as it is, experts have tipped them as favorites to defend their crown this coming season. He's in a great situation in Hollywood from a basketball perspective, and the same can be said from a financial standpoint.

The Lakers are not going to play hard ball with Davis here, and they should be paying him the money he wants and deserves. Barring an astounding turn of events, AD should be representing the Purple & Gold for the foreseeable future.
