Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis has a lofty goal for himself. This is exactly the reason why he won't change his jersey number next season.

Davis, who wears no. 3, was previously expected to switch back to his long-time no. 23 after LeBron James ditched it for his old no. 6. It's hard to keep up, we know. AD, however, recently bared his reason to stick with his current number (via Lakers Daily).

“The plan is to have no. 3 hanging in the rafters.”

If you're a fan of the Purple & Gold, that should get you excited. Davis, who wore no. 23 when he was with the Kentucky Wildcats and the New Orleans Pelicans, just indicated he plans to stay with the Lakers for a significant amount of time and help the team win more titles. Continuing to wear no. 3, which he wore during high school, could be a subtle superstition on his part.

To recall, LeBron already gifted the no. 23 to Davis when he first signed with the Lakers. Nike, however, barred it from happening, citing “production issues and massive financial hit.” The King had the chance to give it again to his running mate this season but that didn't happen as well.

But after seeing a premature end to their season, LeBron announced earlier this month that he would revert to no. 6, which he wore during his Miami Heat days.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James could change jersey numbers every month, but the only number that should matter is the number of wins they can produce for the Lakers. Both have hinted that they're hellbent on redeeming themselves next season when they're both finally rested and completely recovered from their rash of injuries.
