Despite their apparent lack of urgency, you can be sure that the Los Angeles Lakers are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that they have the best possible squad ahead of the new season. This includes the possibility of bringing Kyrie Irving to LA in a potential reunion with LeBron James. There are a handful of roadblocks standing in the way of this blockbuster deal, though, but the Lakers are very likely doing their due diligence.

For their part, the Nets are going to ask for a major haul in exchange for Kyrie. The Lakers do not have too many assets in their possession right now, which means that an Irving deal will likely require them to part ways with several future draft picks. If you ask ESPN's Brian Windhorst, however, the renowned NBA analyst firmly believes that LeBron could care less about these future assets:

“I can’t articulate how little LeBron cares about the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick,” Windy said (h/t Jonathan Sherman of Lakers Daily). “He’s never cared about first-round draft picks. He doesn’t care about first-round draft picks when they’re on his team. He wants to win tonight, and Kyrie Irving gives him a chance tonight.”

Fair point from Windhorst here. LeBron isn't getting any younger and he personally would have very little to gain from the Lakers' future draft picks. As Windy argued, what Kyrie brings to the table is that he can help LeBron and the Lakers win now, and this is exactly what The King wants to do this coming season.
