New Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Dion Waiters won't make his L.A. debut on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

The Lakers are going to take it slow with Waiters:

Waiters is signing a minimum deal with the Lakers for the rest of the season, per Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium is reporting that the Lakers will waive Waiters the second he becomes a distraction off the court.

Waiters played in only three games for the Miami Heat this season because of suspensions. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Earlier this season, Waiters suffered a panic attack on the Heat charter plane after consuming a THC-infused edible. Those type of things won’t be tolerated on the Lakers, who are championship contenders with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way.

Waiters averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists last season for the Heat while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and just 50.0 percent from the free-throw line. He missed the first 35 games of the season because of the ankle surgery he underwent in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference. They are 47-13. After Friday's game against the Bucks, the Lakers will take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday for the third time this season. The Clippers are 2-0 against the Purple and Gold.
