The Los Angeles Lakers are red-hot coming into their matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night at the Staples Center. Frank Vogel's squad has won 11 out of their last 13 games and continues to have a tight grip on the top spot in the Western Conference while LeBron James begins to make a strong case for NBA MVP.

Ahead of perhaps one of the most anticipated games of the season for the Lakers, Vogel talked about James and how the three-time NBA champion has already surpassed his expectations for the season, via Spectrum SportsNet.

“I think most of what he's done this year has surpassed my expectations, quite frankly,” Vogel said of LeBron. “He's just having a heck of a year, continues to get stronger and I think one thing I wasn't directly around in years past is just his leadership. The way he's really rallied our group.

“Our chemistry is the strength of our basketball team. That unity. He's been unbelievable with regard to getting everybody on the same page. Supporting the coaching staff. Those types of things as a leader. Just get the whole group pulling in the right direction.”

LeBron has changed his game for the betterment of the team this season by embracing the role of being the Lakers' primary ballhandler. The results have been impressive as James, in his 17th season, is leading the league in assists for the first time in his career at 10.7 per game.

Along with having a case for MVP and seemingly running away with his first assist title, LeBron has a great chance of winning a fourth NBA title. The Lakers have been dominant all season long with no signs of slowing down, but they'll be facing stiff competition this weekend against perhaps the only two teams that could prevent them from reaching their goal in the Bucks and L.A. Clippers.
