News came out on Friday that the NBA is reportedly “angling” to cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 season following China's CBA shutdown. NBA fans and players alike were bummed about the rumor. However, Los Angeles Lakers forward Jared Dudley downplayed the situation and said that the NBA will not make a decision before June 1st. He also added that there is “too much money at stake” to make a resolution right now.

Dudley, who signed with the Lakers this past summer, certainly knows what he is talking about. And he's right. There's no need to make a decision now considering the circumstances the league is currently facing. The NBA will be very cautious in coming up with a resolution.

Dudley and the Lakers certainly don't want the season to be canceled. They have a legitimate shot of winning the NBA championship this year.

The NBA suspended the season last month after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert became the first player to test positive for COVID-19. Shortly after, many NBA figures also tested positive for the virus (including some unidentified Lakers players), though, most recent reports claim that some, if not, most players previously infected with the disease have since tested negative.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus does not seem to be going away anytime soon. The disease is still spreading like wildfire all over the world. Cases all over the globe recently soared past a million, while cases in the U.S.A. is about to breach the 300,000 mark in the coming days.

The worst is yet to come and the NBA will likely monitor the health situation moving forward. One of the more sensible ideas floated around is that the league could resume operations by playing in a single venue, with all players and staff housed under the same roof. Certainly, the league will consider all options possible before coming to the decision of canceling the season altogether.
