After ruling out LeBron James for Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz, the Los Angeles Lakers allowed the veteran forward to return home to LA.

According to Bill Oram of The Athletic, James is getting further treatment and evaluation of the brutal ankle injury he suffered over the weekend against the New Orleans Pelicans. It's not the first time James is leaving the team and returning home because of an injury, as he did the same thing back in January when he had swelling in his ailing left knee.

There is still no target return date for LeBron James as he recovers from the right ankle injury. He tweaked it early in the second quarter of the Pelicans game, though he was able to play it off and finished the contest.

Following the showdown, however, James mentioned that it feels “horrible” and “sore” at that time. No new updates on his current condition have been provided, but it is safe to assume that it's a serious one considering the need for him to get further treatment.

“I felt a sharp pain in my leg and it started getting hot, and I’ve been there with ankle sprains before,” LeBron said of his injury after Sunday's contest, per Michael Corvo of ClutchPoints. “I didn’t want to come out of the game because I understood how big of a game it was for us”. James, of course, missed 20 games in 2020-21 with a high-ankle sprain.

“I have no idea how I finished the game, to be honest, after watching that replay. It’s pretty nasty.”

The Lakers visit the Jazz Thursday, but it is their last road game for the week before they return home. They play the New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets next at home at Crypto.com Arena. Hopefully, LeBron can rejoin the team in those games.

Fortunately for the Purple and Gold, Anthony Davis seems to be trending in the right direction after being sidelined last February due to a foot issue. He has been upgraded to doubtful against the Jazz, though the general target return date for him is on the Pelicans or Nuggets games.
