Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James poked fun at the latest news surrounding the Washington football team, as a recent statement revealed the franchise had decided to go by, well… “Washington Football Team” until further notice.

The franchise announced it would review the team's name, which has been noted as offensive to Native Americans for years, on July 3. A whopping 20 days later, the team concluded to just go by “Washington Football Team” until a new name is adopted.

James, a notable Dallas Cowboys fan, ripped its division opponent for an underwhelming result after three weeks of waiting:

The NFL team also vowed to scrap the name and logo from every surface, starting with jerseys and apparel, over the next 50 days. Washington hopes to have a name and logo before the team's home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 13.

“The decision to use “Washington Football Team” for this season allows the franchise the ability to undertake an in-depth branding process to properly include player, alumni, fan, community, and sponsor input. To date, we have been pleased to see so many people putting forward their vision of what the new name and design should be on their social media channels and we look forward to including their feedback as this process progresses.”

Besides encouraging fans to called them “Washington Football Team,” the club is also selling merchandise with its new name, despite having no clear direction as to how the name and logo will look like come September.

Chalk up another big disappointment from owner Dan Snyder, who has had this issue brewing for years and has refused to address it until his hand was recently forced to do so. Tickle the Lakers superstar unimpressed.
