Los Angeles Lakers wing Talen Horton-Tucker has tested positive for COVID-19 and will enter the NBA's health and safety protocols.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported THT's status, which was soon confirmed by multiple outlets, then the Lakers. Per Shams, THT is expected to miss multiple games.

A short time earlier, the Lakers canceled their practice and media availability which was scheduled for Tuesday morning. The Lakers are set to fly to Dallas later on Tuesday for their game against the Mavericks on Wednesday night — the first of a three-game road trip.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the Lakers players were instructed to take a rapid and PCR test before flying to Dallas.

The Lakers will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Chicago Bulls on Sunday. Chicago's two games prior to the Lakers matchup have been postponed as 10 Bulls players are in health and safety protocols.

The NBA is dealing with a sharp increase of COVID outbreaks as testing ramps up around the holidays.

The league's policy indicates that a vaccinated player who tests positive has to spend up to 10 days in isolation or produce two negative PCR tests in a 24-hour window. Before training camp, Rob Pelinka said the Lakers would be 100% vaccinated by opening night.

Two weeks ago, LeBron James became the first Lakers player this season to enter the league's protocols — causing him to miss a road win over the Sacramento Kings and spend two days in isolation — for what turned out to be a false positive COVID-19 test. He was not happy about the situation.

Horton-Tucker is averaging 11.3 points in 28.8 minutes per game this season. The 21-year old is one of the few tradable assets on the Lakers roster.

We'll update this story with more information as it comes in.
