The Los Angeles Lakers are in a slump. There's just no denying that right now. They have been struggling all season long, but at the moment, they are in the midst of a disheartening five-game losing streak.

It's no secret that the Lakers need to change things up in order for them to salvage what has been a downright disappointing campaign up to this point. This might come in the form of some tweaks within the roster or it's also very much possible that LA takes a more sensational approach by making some major moves as we approach the February trade deadline.

ESPN experts Brian Windhorst and Bobby Marks recently discussed the options the Lakers have right now. According to the pair of NBA insiders, LA should seriously consider trading for the Detroit Pistons' Jerami Grant.

This isn't the first time the Lakers have been linked to Grant. It's also been rumored that the Pistons may be open to trading their star as they look to add more assets to aid in their rebuild. According to Windhorst, LA must take advantage of this opportunity by offering Talen Horton-Tucker in exchange for Grant:

“Here’s an example of an option, Bobby,” Windhorst said (h/t Brad Sullivan of Lakers Daily). “So, the Lakers have been rumored to have interest in Jerami Grant, and I think that the Pistons, who are in the middle of a rebuild and not going anywhere this season. … I think they might listen on Jeremi Grant.

“So, if you could get a player like Jerami Grant, now that would take probably [Talen] Horton-Tucker and maybe that ’27 first and maybe Kendrick Nunn to make the money work. Is that the type of trade, Bobby, that you would consider if you were the Lakers because that’s a guy who could help you more?”

Marks responded affirmatively as he discussed the benefits the Lakers could gain in trading for a player like Jerami Grant:

“Yeah, that’s a win-now, impact roster trade,” Marks said. “Jerami has not played as well as he did a year ago and he’s injured, so you’re not getting him until probably mid-February there, but that’s the type of deal that you consider when you’re sacrificing probably that ’27 pick, and if you’re Detroit, 2027 pick is valuable because who knows where this Laker roster is going to be?”

On paper, at least, Grant would be an excellent fit for LA. He's one of the best two-way players in the game today, and what he can bring to the table for the Lakers on both offense and defense could prove invaluable.

It is worth noting, however, that the Lakers are extremely high on Horton-Tucker. The 21-year-old just signed an extension with the team during the offseason and it is clear that THT is part of LA's plans for the future.

Be that as it may, now is the time for the Lakers to pull the trigger on a landscape-shifting trade deal. It just doesn't feel like they're going anywhere with their current lineup and it seems that at this point, they have no other option but to make the necessary sacrifices for them to even have a chance of achieving their ultimate goal. Jerami Grant won't fix all of the Lakers' problems overnight, but he's definitely a step in the right direction.
