The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly rooting for Kyrie Irving to sign with the Brooklyn Nets so they can get D'Angelo Russell back, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Irving is widely expected to sign with the Nets once free agency starts on June 30. Russell becomes a restricted free agent this summer.

The Nets could renounce Russell's free agent rights and make him an unrestricted free agent if and when they sign Irving, clearing the way for the Lakers to sign the talented lefty.

The Nets' dream summer is signing Irving and Kevin Durant. The Lakers acquired superstar big man Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans. Los Angeles now needs to fill out the rest of the roster. The Lakers traded Lonzo Ball to New Orleans and need a new starting point guard.

Russell is a different player and man than he was when he came into the league with the Lakers. DLo made his first All-Star team this past season and led the Nets to the playoffs. Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Russell actually reached out to Lakers star LeBron James last offseason for advice on how to be a better player, both on and off the court. It would be a fascinating storyline if Russell ends up back with the Lakers.
