The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling to try and find a trade partner for Russell Westbrook. There has been some talk of a potential move to the Dallas Mavericks for the former league MVP, but at this point, it seems that LA better keep looking.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN's NBA insider Tim McMahon doused some ice-cold water on a potential partnership between Westbrook and Luka Doncic in Dallas (h/t Jacob Rude of Silver Screen & Roll):
“So you guys told me you heard that and I checked in. I got a very quick ‘Hell no,'” McMahon said. ” … The idea of Russ being on the roster next to the most ball-dominant player in the NBA, Luka Doncic…”
We all know how Westbrook is no longer the superstar he once was, but the way the Mavs vehemently rejected the prospect of bringing Russ to Dallas is still a bit surprising. Obviously, the Mavs do not want to see Westbrook playing alongside Doncic, and they have made their feelings about it abundantly clear.
For their part, the Lakers will need to keep on digging in terms of finding a potential trade for the embattled Russell Westbrook. It's been a challenging prospect for LA, to say the least, and at this point, the possibility of Russ suiting up for the Purple & Gold next season is becoming increasingly plausible. It might not be the best-case scenario for the Lakers, but it seems as though they don't really have too many options.
