The struggles of the Los Angeles Lakers this season have been well-documented. Such is the plight of one of the most high-profile franchises in all of sports, in that everything they do is placed under the microscope — particularly when a team has been this bad.

As it turns out, however, the Lakers remain confident in their ability to win it all this season. Despite the rough season they have been through and regardless of the fact that they're barely clinging on to a play-in spot right now, the organization reportedly still believes that they can win the championship this year.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, this all boils down to the health of LeBron James and Anthony Davis:

The Lakers still hold championship aspirations this season. Los Angeles personnel maintain that if they can reach the playoffs, the healthy combination of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is still enough to threaten all comers for the Western Conference crown. Some rival teams have echoed that sentiment as well.

Note that this isn't all about LeBron anymore. James has been playing at an elite level throughout the entire season, but unfortunately, his heroics have not been enough to lift the Lakers from basketball purgatory. LA clearly needs Anthony Davis to be healthy because without him, their hopes of winning the title all but diminish.

The one thing the Lakers have working in their favor is their track record. The partnership of LeBron and AD has already won a championship for LA and this in itself should serve as a testament to their ability to do it again.

It goes without saying, however, that so much has changed since the Lakers lifted the trophy in 2020 — both externally and internally. For their part, LA's roster has still left a lot to be desired right now. They've already made some personnel moves of late, but none of them have been significant enough to make a major impact on this team for the remainder of the season.

Anthony Davis is still nursing a foot injury and isn't expected to be back for at least two more weeks. LeBron and Co. will need to keep the ship afloat in the meantime in the hopes of securing a spot in the playoffs. And then, they take it from there.
