Memphis Grizzlies rookie point guard Ja Morant has already put a few veterans on posters during his short NBA career—and almost destroyed Kevin Love—but Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis was not going to be the latest participant in a Ja highlight.

In one play, Davis came from behind to emphatically deny Morant's attempt at a left-handed tomahawk during Saturday night's showdown in Memphis.

The impressive recovery on the pick-and-roll by Anthony Davis is an example of his immense defensive impact. Davis hasn't been that dominant of a rim protector this season, but his all-around defensive versatility has him as a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year this season, along with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rudy Gobert.

Morant is the current favorite for the Rookie of the Year award, putting up 17.5 points and 6.9 assists per game. He's attempting to stave off a late-surging Zion Williamson in the award and playoff race, as the Grizzlies, as of this writing, lead the New Orleans Pelicans by 2.5 games for the eighth seed in the West. The Grizzlies came into Saturday losers of five in a row.

For the record, Ja did get in a highlight-reel slam on the Lakers.
