It has been a month since the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned champions of the historic 2019-20 NBA season. In a little over another month, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the Lakers are already going to take the court to defend their title.

Lakers head coach Frank Vogel recently gave his initial thoughts about the quick turnaround. While he acknowledged how short this offseason will be, he spoke about how his squad, led by their superstar tandem, is built to take these kinds of challenges head on:

“The 72-game season we're about to endure is something that we feel very good about. Obviously, it's been a super quick turnaround for our team. The shortest offseason in the history of the NBA. But this is a team that embraces challenges and this is just the next challenge in line for us. The opportunity to dive in to all the challenges of trying to repeat as an NBA champion that myself, my staff, and our front office is really looking forward to. Our players are ready to go.”

Lakers fans, get hyped.

The NBA and NBPA have reached an agreement to start the 2020-21 NBA season on Dec. 22. This means that the reigning champions will only get just over a couple of months of rest before going into battle again.

Certainly, the Lakers have everyone's targets on their backs. Teams such as the Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks are looking to build on strong seasons, while others such as the Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks look to avenge disappointing outcomes. Meanwhile, teams such as the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets look to insert themselves into the title conversation after injury-riddled 2019-20 campaigns.

The Lakers will certainly have their hands full in this upcoming season. But make no mistake about it, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the defending champs will be ready.
