Tennessee Volunteers talent Lamonte Turner was lost a bit in the team's hype last season, playing in the shadows of two NBA-level players. Heading into the 2019-20 college basketball season, though, this is clearly his team.

He's ready for the chance to show why.

“This is something you work for all your life,” the 6-foot-2 guard said during the team's preseason media day event. “You work to be in a role like I am. But I don’t just see myself as a go-to scorer. I’ve gotten better in a lot of things. I think I can pass the ball really well know. I’m more vocal, more of a floor general.”

A fifth-year senior, Lamonte Turner will have to help the Vols replace Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bone.

“I just want to be the best player possible — the best player I can be,” said Lamonte Turner, who graduated in May with a degree in communication studies. “I want to handle criticism well. I want to handle adversity well. I don’t want to put my head down. I don’t want to feel like I can’t do something or anything like that. I want to give myself the best opportunity, the best chance possible to succeed.”

The young man averaged 11 points last season for the Tennessee Volunteers. Given who his teammates were at the time, he wasn't exactly given the green light to hurl up a ton of attempts.

Expect that to change in the 2019-20 college basketball. Again, he seems ready for the chance to show what he's got.
